It's more that I don't think many people are fond of a kind of music that was popular before they were born these days. Not from my experience. I talked to my classmates about the Sex Pistols once and they looked at me as if I was insane.

Classic punk is among the most recent stuff I listen to and play. Not that Beethoven couldn't have done well in modern times. Interesting thought experiment actually.
